Somewhere over the Rainbow: The Golden Age of Hollywood Musicals $13.19 The “Golden Age” referred to here spans The Jazz Singer and the advent of the talkies to the death throes of the old studio system in the 1960s. So vast was the era’s musical landscape that even this 42-track, double-disc anthology can’t encompass all its peaks. Not surprisingly, the bulk of this collection originated with the Tiffany’s of the screen musical, M-G-M, a body of work whose riches her… |

Baby Sleep $9.91 I think this music is intended for adults, though the photo on the cover is of a sleeping baby. In any event, Schumann’s work, Scenes From Childhood, Op. 15, featured here is more likely to bolt you out of bed than put you to sleep, as the mike is far too close to the piano being played by Cyprien Katsaris. Purcell’s Adagio from The Indian Queen is magnificent, performed by John Elliott Gardin… |

Songs of Free Men/ A Paul Robeson Recital $4.75 There was nothing like the Robeson sound, ever. To describe his deep, rich, perfectly equalized instrument is futile. Go instead to “Balm in Gilead,” the opening track, and see if you can listen to the last pianissimo phrase without falling to pieces. Robeson was at his best when the music was slow and the words contained spiritual or social messages. Faster, lighter fare like Kern’s “I Still Suit… |

Rescue Me – The Complete Fourth Season $28.00 Is firefighter and “heroic S.O.B.” Tommy Gavin (Denis Leary) becoming, as one character so delicately puts it, “pussified?” As the fourth season begins, Tommy is listening to Dr. Laura and watching Oprah. He awkwardly and clumsily avoids the aggressive crazy-hot volunteer woman firefighter (Jennifer Esposito) who saved his life in the beach-house fire of which he has no memory; an act that has lef… |
When it comes to naming their babies, some parents like to stay with tradition. This means nothing that is too different such as Nevaeh, which is “heaven” spelled backwards, or a name such as “Ziggy.” This simply means sticking to the more traditional names that include “Michael” and “Thomas.”
Some individuals like to stay with tradition when naming a child after a parent or grandparent. There is also the fact that the most traditional names are the strongest of names. It is always good to evaluate every angle of a name because that child will be starting school someday and the child does have to live with the name for the rest of their life.
So what are some good traditional baby names?
Traditional names
There are a lot of traditional baby names to choose from. Here are some that you may wish to consider if you are expecting and looking for something more traditional:
Alexander
Catherine
Alice
Henry
John
Peter
Rebecca
Sarah
Elizabeth
Matthew
You probably know someone with one of these names. What makes traditional names so special is that they have literally stood the test of time. Some of these names are names that have been around for thousands of years. This more or less has a lot to do with biblical origins. Many of these names are names that were present in the Bible and it has been tradition throughout many families to choose a biblical name for their child.
You will find biblical names most common amongst the Christian population. Traditional names such as John, Peter, Sarah, Rebecca, and Matthew are true because of this. There are also a variety of other names that include Mark, Luke, and Joshua that are common traditional names because of their biblical placement. However, this is not the only reason why individuals choose these names. Again, family tradition has much to do with it. So does culture.
If family tradition is a part of the deal, do not stray away just because of what is popular. Some of the above names are actually on the list of most popular names. As a matter of fact, Matthew, Sarah, and John are on the top 100 list and tend to remain there.
Which way to go?
So it is up to you whether you want to choose a traditional baby name or one that is a little more on the modern side. There are modern baby names that are strong and to the point. They don’t have strange pronunciations or weird spellings. When choosing a name, these are things to look at.
With traditional, there is not really any room for guessing with a name. However, you may choose to stay with a traditional name but choose a different spelling. Traditional does not mean you do not have some room for creativity. You can be as creative as you want. If you stay traditional with the first name, have some fun with the middle name. Just make sure everything fits.
